This is certainly one of the cars I’d love to touch someday. Bugatti’s are amazing works of art that have been designed to actually be driven.
This was proven when the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ became the fastest production car going just over 300 mph (but it was recently topped by the SSC Tuatara when it *UNOFFICIALLY* hit 316 on public roads, which you can read about in our post).
When this particular Bugatti arrived, the world stopped and stared, not because it was another very expensive car to be released, but due to it being the fastest speed-record machine that was about to change the world as we knew it.

Who Founded Bugatti?
One of the world’s most luxurious and powerful cars was created by Ettore Bugatti, an Italian-born French designer and manufacturer who founded Automobiles E. Bugatti in 1909. Born into an artistic family in Milan, he started his career as an apprentice at a cycle factory, where he created his prototype.
His second prototype ensured him a job at Lorraine-Dietrich, a car factory. His next step was to open his own company, Automobiles E. Bugatti, in Molsheim at the age of 28. At the age of 29, he created the Bugatti Type 13.
Who owns Bugatti?
Currently, the German Volkswagen Group owns 51% the Bugatti brand, the remaining portion is owned by Bugatti Rimac, a Croation electric supercar manufacturer. Additionally, Volkswagen Group owns other big brands such as Audi, Lamborghini, and Porsche. At the present, Bugatti cars are manufactured in Molsheim, France.

There are supercars that grab everyone’s attention and are hung as posters on the walls of many a child. These supercars are “attainable” in the eyes of many.
Then there are Hypercars that are discussed in hushed tones and held in reverence. They’re almost like a unicorn or fantasm in their rarity. Many can only dream of seeing them in person, let alone ever owning one. They are unattainable to most, even in their imaginations. This is, to me, where the Chiron Super Sport falls.
Let’s explore some additional facts about this unbelievable car:
1. This Bugatti LOVES to Gulp Air
Bugatti likes to design their cars in a way that makes them incredibly unique and complex. One of these areas is aerodynamics. Usually, aerodynamic cars slice through the air efficiently with very little friction. The Chiron does this but at the same time has to direct much of that air onto the braking system and into the engine.
The naturally aspirated 8.0-liter engine has four turbos that all require heaping amounts of air which they then pressurize and shove into the cylinders – all 16 of them! The amount of airflow that this car requires is astonishing.
It has been reported that over 60,000 liters of oxygen are needed per minute that this car runs. That’s astonishing. But it’s needed to produce the 1500 horsepower and 1180 pound-feet of torque that this engine produces.
2. There are three Trims – Base, Pur Sport & Super Sport
Over the lifetime of the Chiron, there have been three primary trim packages. The base model, the new-for-2021 Pur Sport (that’s mostly a handling package and limited to only 60 produced) and the Super Sport. The base Chiron is amazing in its own right. The only other trim package offered above this is the Super Sport 300+ which is really a version of one.
Both models are all-wheel drive and have the same hunger for air. The engines are the same (16 cylinders) and produce close to the same power – 1500 hp for the base and 1578 for the SuperSport.
The Chiron uses a similar base engine as its older sister, the Veyron (which you can read about here) which is a W16 powerplant. The W stands for the configuration of the engine that is two V8s side by side – forming a “W” shape.
If that’s now amazing enough, you’ll be even more astonished to learn that there are over 10 radiators on this amazing machine to keep everything cool and running at temperature.
The base model will set you back $3 million for a 2021 model and the Pur Sport is a knee-wobbling $3.6 million!
3. When Was Bugatti First Produced?
In 1909, Bugatti made its debut and changed the world. 110 years later, Bugatti celebrated its roots by releasing a special edition car, the Bugatti Chiron.

4. Why the Name Chiron?
While Bugatti was named after its founder, Ettore Bugatti, the Bugatti Chiron was named after the Monegasque driver, Louis Chiron. The Monaco-born Louis Chiron, a Bugatti driver from the 1920s and 1930s, was a familiar face during the early years of the last century in helping to build the brand.
5. How Can You Buy a Bugatti Chiron?
If you would like to own a Bugatti Chiron, then you will need to be extremely lucky as there will only be 500 Bugatti Chirons available to sell, and currently over 300 already have an owner. The process of buying a Chiron can take up to two years for you to have the keys to your new car.
6. Where Are Bugatti Chiron’s Being Sold?
When you show your interest in buying the Bugatti Chiron, you will go through an application process, and if successful, you will be invited to go to the Bugatti factory in Molsheim, France. Interviews can take as little as 5 minutes or as long as 5 hours. You will also have the chance to do a test drive inside the premises and learn about the legacy of Bugatti. And of course, you will be able to test drive and check out the true potential of your potential new car at VW Group’s Ehra-Lessien test track.
7. Is Bugatti Chiron Street legal in the US?
This might sound absurd, but yes, some people do believe that its illegal to own a Bugatti Chiron in the US, but there is some truth in this, as the US federal bumper standards rules differ a little from the European guidelines, and because the manufacturer of Bugatti Chiron is based in Europe, for US citizens to have the right to own a Bugatti Chiron.
The VW Group had to make some alterations to the US models. Bugatti chose to add some changes to the front and rear bumpers to satisfy the necessary U.S. guideline demands. So, if you buy a Bugatti Chiron in the US, you won’t get the same exact car as your neighbors from Europe, but you will own a road-legal Bugatti Chiron. And while the design is slightly different, this hasn’t affected sales in the U.S.
8. Is the Bugatti Chiron still being produced?
Bugatti is still nowhere near done with their Bugatti Chiron super sport creation run. When the first modern Bugatti was announced in 2016, with its superfast and gorgeous design, the Chiron opened doors for new variants.
In 2018, Bugatti Chiron released the Bugatti Chiron Sport, which is a lighter version with fewer than 18kgs. A limited edition was then released in 2019 to celebrate Bugatti’s 110th anniversary with the Bugatti 110 Ans, with production confined to only 20 cars. In 2020, Bugatti introduced the Chiron Pur Sport, 50 kgs lighter, and a fixed rear spoiler that will only have 60 limited produced cars.
And finally, Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ is the ultimate Chiron Sport, which is even faster, (they have released the air pressure from the front wheels), marking a record-breaking run that exceeds the 300 mph barrier (482,89 miles per hour), breaking a Guinness world record. Factory test driver Andy Wallace, reported an incredible 304.773 mph test run for the new Chiron Super Sport Bugatti car.
Although not established yet, many have assumed the Super Sport300+ would hold a working air brake, which is something that the record-setting car didn’t have. Production has already begun this year, with a limited edition of 30 cars only.

13. Does the Bugatti Chiron have any Known Issues?
Even the most powerful cars have their flaws, and along the way, Bugatti had to make some adjustments as some issues came to light. These included an issue with the welding of the front seats, as the recliner function wasn’t as reliable as it needed to be.
The iconic front grille that was made of aluminum is now titanium as many birds got trapped inside, destroying it. Several 2018 Chirons also had to be recalled after a problem was identified with the side airbags.
14. Why is the Bugatti Chiron so Expensive?
Bugatti is already known for its expensive and limited edition cars. For the Chiron series, for example, there will only 500 available. Bugatti hand-builds around 70 Chirons a year at its factory in France. Limited editions are by nature extremely special and expensive.

15. What is the Cheapest Bugatti?
Bugatti cars can cost from $1.9 Million to around $12 Million. The Bugatti Veyron Super Sport was the cheapest car in their line-up (even adjusted for inflation). The Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, which achieved a maximum speed of 267.856 miles per hour, was released in 2005 and manufactured until 2015.
However, because they’re no longer produced, their values have gone up quickly.
