During the recent recession, automakers in America were facing some serious challenges. Bleak was their present circumstance and bleaker still was their impending future. There was only one thing to do and that was to ask the government to intervene. Ford was the exception to the rule as it braved through the economic turmoil and made it through. It wouldn’t have done this without the Ford F-150. This has been the bestselling car in America from 1981 and the bestselling pickup since 1977. Now, that is an incredible record. The F-150 light-duty truck is the most popular of the F-Series, which also includes, the Super Duty (F250 to F-550), and the medium-duty trucks Super Duty F-650 and F-750.
The F-Series first generation was introduced in 1948 as a replacement for the car-based Ford pickup. At the time it was also known as the Ford Bonus-Built. Production of this pioneering truck ramped up in 1952.
Currently, the F-150 has reached its thirteenth generation, which was unveiled in the 2014 North American International Auto Show. It was based on the 2013 Ford Atlas concept. Being based on a new platform the F-150 got an aluminium body construction. Other features worth mentioning include Collision Warining with Brake Support, Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane-Keeping System.
The F-150 is available in three cab styles as either a regular cab, Super or SuperCrew, with six trims to choose from:
- King Ranch
Powering the F-150 are a set of petrol V6s and a single V8. The least powerful of the V6 engines is the 3.5 L EcoBoost turbo that churns out 365 hp and 570 Nm of torque. However, the most powerful engine horsepower-wise is the 5.0 L Coyote V8, which by the way also powers the Mustang. This engine is able to produce 385 hp and 525 Nm of torque. The whole range uses a 6-speed auto for transmission.
Inside the cabin it looks and feels plush with vinyl flooring, air conditioning, a 4.2” central display, 2.3” driver info screen, four speaker radio, Bluetooth amongst other features. There is enough room for the driver, passengers and also luggage.
This is one mighty handsome looking vehicle. Apart from its massive grille, I like the C-shaped headlights. It looks nothing like its predecessor and it sure is a step up.
The F-150 is a really great and manages to stand out in a hotly contested segment in the auto industry. This is quite a practical truck, especially considering that its 3.5L V6 turbo can tow a maximum weight of 12,200 pounds. This truck is a serious off roader and it’s really comfortable on the road too. Its interior feels well stitched and bordering luxury. All in all, this is the best truck out there period.
Planning to own a F-150, you’ll have to budget starting from $ 26,540.
This has to be the best truck out there, do you agree or disagree? Have your say, leave a comment.
