There are few car companies that can say they contributed in giving as the freedom and liberty we have today. I have written a lot of car articles and few cars can I say have as rich a history as the Rolls Royce Phantom and the Jeep Wrangler. Entering one of this has you staring at auto making of years gone by but in a more contemporary way.
There are few cars of any kind that you can say have gone through wars and lived to talk about it. Well, for Americans a car doesn’t get more patriotic than the Jeep Wrangler. Developed by Ford and Willys, the Willys MB story started in 1941 all the way to the end of the Second World War in 1945. At this time it was known as the Willys MB and was strictly for military purposes. It then continued post-war as the Jeep CJ. With the initials CJ standing for Civilian Jeep. The CJ took off where the Willys MB stopped in the 40s, and made a successful run all the way to the 80s. After the CJ, the Jeep Wrangler was made as a replacement model to fill the void that was left by the CJ. There is a common misconception that the Wrangler is a direct descendant of the CJ stemming in their close resemblance. However, these are two different machines altogether with different design parameters.
The Current Model
The current Jeep Wrangler is known as JK where it was preceded by the YJ and TJ. The JK started production from 2006, and it was distinguished from its predecessors by its angled grille. As for the Wrangler they don’t really make that many cosmetic changes as Jeep don’t just sell you a car they sell you the history as well. If you want a Jeep with a more contemporary design then pick up the Jeep Cherokee.
The Wrangler JK has a number of variants to suit your tastes:
- Sport S
- Willys Wheeler
- Black Bear
- Freedom Edition
- 75th Anniversary
- Rubicon Hard Rock
The most supreme SUV out of this list is the Rubicon. Named after a legendary trail it delivers the best performance in its marque
For all your rugged terrain you have a 24 valve V6 that churns out 285 hp and 260 lb·ft. The Wrangler manages to raise the power using a 7-Speed auto transmission. As for top speed you are limited to 99 mph.
The cabin is spacious and comfy with heated seats. Also, you’ve got enough storage space for all your luggage. What I find unique with the Jeep is you can decide to remove the doors and roof altogether to experience the summer sun.
Still deeply inspired by the CJ, this is the classic Jeep in all its glory.
I am guilty of rambling about this car’s history, however am also enamored by its off road ability, as it gives out performance in different terrain. Also, I am impressed with the noise and vibration protection you get out of this. As a testament to the car’s engineering it was named the “4×4 of the Decade” by the Four Wheeler magazine. Great car, that seems to be nonchalant as it keeps impressing each new supreme generation of car lovers.
If you want a Wrangler start to budget from $ 23,895.
